Gansbaai and Great White Sharks
Gansbaai and shark cage diving
The Dyer Island group are home to around 55 000 Cape fur seals. These are not the only sea creatures, which swim and occupy these islands. Penguins and other sea birds are also found in these parts making it a very attractive place for the Great White Shark to feed. The reef around the island are to shallow for the sharks to swim across giving the seals and other sea animals a safety zone to breed and raise their young. The Great white sharks patrol the channels around the island, which the seals have to venture across to feed.
Shark Cage diving equipment
A shark cage is specially designed to withstand a huge amount of force under water. Some of the cage is always above the water giving divers the options of coming up at any time. Divers are never far under water with air supplied from tanks on the boat. Scuba and other equipment is supplied by the tour operator.
