A trip along the Orange River is one of the most beautiful and tranquil experiences Southern Africa has to offer. The Gariep River as it is called by the local Nama people forms part of the border between South Africa and Namibia. The river slowly winds its way through the Richtersveld Mountains towards the Atlantic Ocean.

A River Rafting trip will slowly take you downstream as you marvel at the stunning mountain scenery and the colourful birdlife. Camp out in mild temperatures and enjoy delicious meals in the most tranquil environment.
Umkulu’s Services
Qualified river guides make sure you get the most out of your Orange River experience. The guides are knowledgeable about the area, make sure a high safety standard is upheld and prepare delicious meals. You will paddle down the river in two-man inflatable boats known as “crocs”. Umkulu provides:

The fun activities along the way include swimming, bird watching and mastering some of the fast-flowing rapids.
All you need is a sleeping bag and a mattress. The mild a temperatures and the absence of mosquitoes allow us to sleep under the stars.

Whether you choose a 4 or a 6 day rafting tour, you will spend your first night at base camp. Here you will get a full briefing on safety procedures and river rafting. The amenities of base camp include:

What you need to bring
The Orange River Rafting Trails are conducted in mild temperatures without the dangers of dangerous animals or mosquitoes. All you need to bring is:
- Sleeping bags and mats
- Drinks
- Cutlery and crockery
You will be paddling downstream most of the time so only moderate levels of fitness are required.
