4 Day Orange River Trip

The banks of the Orange River create a stark contrast to the hot and arid landscape of the Richtersveld. The gently flowing river keeps you cool during the heat of the day, making this the ideal getaway for friends, family or team building.

Itinerary

Day 1: As you arrive in the evening you meet our guides and start to unwind as you enjoy some delicious bush cuisine by the fire. Without the city’s light pollution the stars in the area are amazingly bright.

Day 2: After breakfast you acquaint yourself with the rafting equipment. Spend the day gazing in awe at the fascinating landscape. The paddling is light and requires not particular level of skill or fitness. In the evening your guides will choose a spot to camp on the riverbanks.

Day 3: As the sun rises a traditional South African breakfast gives you strength for the day. This day offers some fun grade 2 rapids, large pools and enough time to swim and play in the river. Avid anglers can use this day to indulge in their passion.

Day 4: After a morning paddle and lunch on the river banks you head back to camp for a braai and apple crumble baked on the fire. You will depart the next morning.

5 Day Orange River Trip

Leave the stress and pollution of the city behind and immerse yourself in beautiful environment, where the Orange River meets the hot and arid Richtersveld. This section, where South Africa’s longest river forms the border with Namibia is ideal for blissful getaway. Xama’s 5 day rafting trips give you the chance to thoroughly shake off the burdens of city life.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at camp the evening for a warm welcome from our guides. After a short briefing you settle down by the fire for some tasty bush cuisine and star gazing.

Day 2: After a good breakfast you acquaint yourself with your rafting equipment and start the gentle paddle on the Orange River. In the evening your guides will select a spot to camp and prepare a mouth-watering dinner.

Day 3: The second day on the river holds some fun rapids. You will also have enough time to swim play and fish, so remember to take your fishing rod!

Day 4: During this day you will have enough time to discover the unique beauty of the Richtersveld. Watch out for the prolific birdlife as you float gently downstream. The night is spent camping under the bright stars of the Southern Hemisphere.

Day 5: The morning paddle brings the famous Sjambok rapid along with prominent geographical features such as Witches Hat and Scratches. After lunch on the riverbanks you head back to camp , where you enjoy the last afternoon in this pristine area.

Day 6: This morning you say “Good bye” to your new found friends. An early departure is recommended to avoid traffic.
